The Mourning Monarch

Faeries have a code of conduct regarding to romance and marriage that's relatable to some few creatures of this world. They only pair once. And their marriage is more of a magical contract that curses them both to eternity. If one of them happened to die, it would become a group of butterflies to keep company to the other, forever. Of course there's no magic that can fix the feeling of loss. Nothing can. But the butterflies help them remember that life is not only fleeting, but it's bigger than death. And it always comes back again in the shape of something beautiful and delicate, that can be broken over thousand million times. But it always comes back, stubbornly and full of energy.
